Distinguished and Famous people from Fleurieu Peninsula
🍷 Thomas Hardy
Thomas Hardy helped develop McLaren Vale’s wine industry through the acquisition of Tintara and expansion of winemaking in the township. Born in Devon, he arrived in South Australia in 1850 and worked for John Reynell before establishing his own vineyards. His business grew through local grape production and overseas sales, while writing and travel broadened his knowledge of viticulture. On the Fleurieu Peninsula, his connection is a substantial working enterprise. The familiar winery name represents years of cultivation, processing and finding markets for the resulting wine.
